Resources

Alcoholics Anonymous provides information and support resources for individuals, families, professionals, students, and community organisations seeking to better understand alcoholism and the A.A. program of recovery.

Whether you are looking for help for yourself, supporting somebody else, or seeking general information about Alcoholics Anonymous, the resources below may assist.

What is Alcoholics Anonymous?

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism.

A.A. is:

  • Free of charge
  • Non-professional
  • Self-supporting
  • Open to anyone with a desire to stop drinking

A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation, or institution.

Find a Local Meeting

Meetings are held throughout Canberra and surrounding regions each week, including:

  • In-person meetings
  • Online meetings
  • Beginner meetings
  • Women’s meetings
  • LGBTQIA+ meetings
  • Young people’s meetings
  • Accessible meetings

If you think you may have a problem with alcohol, attending a meeting can be a good place to start.

Resources for Families & Friends

Alcoholism affects not only the individual drinking, but also family members, friends, and loved ones. Al-Anon is often a beneficial means of support in these cases. You can find them at al-anon.org.au or confidentially speak to a member via their helpline at 1300 252 666.

Information for Professionals & Community Services

Many healthcare workers, counsellors, social workers, treatment services, and community organisations provide information about Alcoholics Anonymous to people seeking help with alcohol problems.

Information is available about:

  • Attending A.A. meetings
  • What A.A. does and does not do
  • A.A. literature and pamphlets

You can arrange for an A.A. member to come and speak at your facility or event by contacting Area B’s Public Information and Professional Awareness Committee via our contact form or directly by email at pipa@aaareaber.org.au.
